Atharv Nimsarkar – A writer that defines life

Published: Apr 23, 2022

For artists, inspiration is found in the most unusual of places. These inspirations are not always beautiful and do not come in with a disclaimer. They are bold, raw, and unpredictable. I grew up as a confident child with big dreams and even bigger aspirations in life. At the age of 9, I enrolled myself in a theater group. Talking and engaging with new artists every week and experiencing the lives of different characters gave me a chance to explore beyond my creative ability.

The diverse media of character’s performances gave me an outlet I had complete and unmitigated control over. More important than my passion, I found my peace there, the peace which cannot be justified based on your identity. I still vividly recollect my feelings when I performed for my first significant theater competition. There I was, standing on the podium in front of an audience five thousand strong, with indescribable mixed feelings leading my best to be in the character of a 14-year-old physically disabled boy. A bright orangish-yellow light was flaring over me, the ‘spotlight’ which highlighted me in the eyes of everyone else. In the background, some soft music with intense, subtle notes gave me the motivation to speak. With a deep breath, I took a step forward, and with a tearful, trembling voice, I expressed, “No maa, don’t worry, I will study, I won’t let my Dalit identity become a barrier to my education. I take an oath today, I will be like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, I won’t let my disability and identity affect me maa.” The minute the play ended; I received a thundering standing ovation with unstoppable applause. In a few seconds, I was surrounded by a bunch of journalists and people. I was not used to being the center of attention, but, at the same time, I was overwhelmed by the love and support that I received. I still remember the words of a reporter: “You are a brave child who isn’t scared of the world’s perception.

One day you will be one of the strongest voices of your community.” The old man’s words certainly made a positive impact on my life. The next day, I was featured among the famous newspapers of the city. Later, I started gaining multifaceted interest in Acting, Film making and writing. I started applying for internship opportunities to work alongside filmmakers to understand the beautiful and hectic process of filmmaking. Moreover, I started writing fiction and, poetries to let my words reach out to others. I feel grateful for having various creative outlets to emit my ineffable emotions and further carve them into art. It is often said, the pursuit of self and self-recognition is the pursuit where the most content people in life, too, face strife. This search of self in my case has led to many revelations in me, including a desire to be the best version of myself, in harmony with my environment. This also comes with a sense of not letting the environment define me, instead, making sure that my environment changes for the better.

If anyone should want to talk to me about business, I am available and please get in touch with billy LAx.  He will in turn touch base with me and we can hook-up from there.
